How to get a Simple and Casual look in 10 minutes! (Juliet's Style)

BEFORE

  meets

Start with a clean fresh face. Make sure you don't have any old makeup still on and you have moisturized your face.
Start with concealer. A shade lighter then your skin. Put it on any blemishes and under your eyes to help with dark circles. Rub in with your fingers or a makeup sponge.
Use a foundation that matches your skin. DO NOT try and use a foundation lighter or darker than your skin, it never works well. Apply it in spots over your face and rub in with your hands or makeup sponge making sure to blend along your jaw bone.
Apply a Superior Cover Pressed Powder to your cheek bones with a large makeup brush to complement your foundation for a flawless finish. This gives you a more defined cheek bone.

Apply a pink blush with a makeup brush to your cheek bones.
Take a So Sleek Eye Dust colour to shade those eyes and make them glow in perfection.

Take a liquid liner to the top of your lashes making sure to draw a straight thin line.

Take an eye lash curler and curl your lashes.
Next take a black waterproof mascara. Apply a couple layers to the top and bottom lashes.

Take a fuchsia true colour shade and apply to your lips and finish up with a  Raspberry Rhapsody colour lipgloss.

AFTER

You have your complete, natural look!

Fingernails

Do's and don'ts for healthy nails!

Are you taking good care of your nails? Here's what you need to know to keep your fingernails in tiptop shape.

Take a close look at your fingernails. Are they strong and healthy looking? Or do you see ridges, dents, or areas of unusual color or shape? Many less than desirable nail conditions can be avoided through proper fingernail care. Others indicate an underlying condition that requires attention.

Fingernails: What's normal, what's not

Your fingernails — composed of laminated layers of a protein called keratin — grow from the area at the base of the nail under your cuticle. As new cells grow, older cells become hard and compacted and are eventually pushed out toward your fingertips.
Healthy fingernails are smooth, without pits or grooves. They're uniform in color and consistency and free of spots or discoloration. Sometimes fingernails develop harmless vertical ridges that run from the cuticle to the tip of the nail. Vertical ridges tend to become more prominent with age. Fingernails can also develop white lines or spots due to injury, but these eventually grow out with the nail.

Not all nail conditions are normal, however. Consult your doctor or dermatologist if you notice:
  • Changes in nail color, such as discoloration of the entire nail or a dark streak under the nail
  •        Changes in nail shape, such as curled nails
  • Thinning or thickening of the nails
  • Separation of the nail from the surrounding skin
  • Bleeding around the nails
  • Redness, swelling or pain around the nails
To keep your fingernails looking their best, follow these simple guidelines.

Do:
Keep your fingernails dry and clean. This prevents bacteria, fungi and other organisms from growing under your fingernails. Wear cotton-lined rubber gloves when washing dishes, cleaning or using harsh chemicals, and avoid long soaks in the tub.

·    Trim and file your fingernails regularly. Use a sharp manicure scissors or clippers. Trim your nails straight across, then round the tips in a gentle curve. It might be easiest to trim and file your fingernails when they're soft, such as after bathing.
Use moisturizer. When you use hand lotion, rub the lotion into your fingernails and cuticles, too.

Don't:
Abuse your fingernails. To prevent nail damage, don't use your fingernails as tools to pick, poke or pry things.

Bite your fingernails or pick at your cuticles. These habits can damage the nail bed. Even a minor cut alongside your fingernail can allow bacteria or fungi to enter and cause an infection.

Pull off hangnails. You might rip live tissue along with the hangnail. Instead, carefully clip off hangnails.

Ignore problems. If you have a nail problem that doesn't seem to go away on its own or is associated with other signs and symptoms, consult your doctor or dermatologist for an evaluation.

Tips for weak or brittle fingernails
Weak fingernails can be a challenge to toughen up. To protect weak or brittle fingernails and reduce the risk of splitting or breaking:

·    Keep your nails short. Long nails are more likely to split or break.
Use moisturizer. Apply moisturizer to your fingernails and cuticles several times throughout the day and before bed. Consider wearing cotton gloves while you sleep, to help seal in the moisture.

Apply nail polish. A thin coat of clear nail polish can help keep moisture in your fingernails.

Limit use of nail polish remover. Don't use nail polish remover more than once a week. When you do need to use nail polish remover, choose the acetone-free variety. Acetone dries nails.

Ask your doctor about biotin supplements. Changing your diet or taking daily multivitamins isn't likely to strengthen your nails. However, some research suggests that the nutritional supplement biotin might help strengthen weak or brittle fingernails.

Food for Healthy Nails

Unhealthy nails can have slow growth, ridges, dents, white spots, rips and an unusual color. Minerals and vitamins found in certain foods can improve the health and appearance of nails. Although eating certain foods will not provide a quick fix for nails, eating foods for healthy nails can help to contribute to nail health when combined with proper care and maintenance, such as cleaning and moisturizing.
B Vitamins
A lack of B vitamins, specifically biotin and vitamin B12, can cause dryness of the nails. It can also cause the nails to become dark. Biotin can be found in carrots, tomatoes, leafy green lettuce, liver, peanut butter, nuts, peas, oatmeal and beans. Vitamin B12 can be found in meat, eggs and dairy products such as milk, yogurt and cheese.

Zinc and Iron
A zinc deficiency can cause white areas on the nails, similar to the marks that occur as a result of pressure on nails. Pumpkin seeds, beef, pork, lamb, dairy products and hard-boiled eggs are good sources of zinc. A lack of iron in foods can cause nails to grow with ridges rather than with a smooth surface. Iron can be found in leafy greens, prunes, grains, seeds, red meat, broccoli and tofu.

Calcium and Protein
A lack of calcium can cause the nails to be brittle and dry. Calcium benefits the body most when it is absorbed along with vitamin D, so milk is a great source of calcium. Other calcium sources include yogurt, cheese and kale. Protein benefits nails as well, since nails are made of keratin, a type of protein. This important nutrient can be found in beans, legumes, meat, eggs and soy.

Vitamin A and Vitamin C
Vitamin A, which can be found in beet greens, collards, carrots, squash, sweet potatoes and liver, can prevent nails from becoming dull and dry. A lack of vitamin C can cause hang nails. Bell peppers, cauliflower, oranges, watermelon, mangoes, tomatoes, strawberries, kiwi, cantaloupe and grapefruit are all sources of vitamin C.

A note about manicures and pedicures:

If you rely on manicures or pedicures for healthy looking nails, keep a few things in mind. Stick to salons that work with only with nail technicians. Don't have your cuticles removed — it can lead to nail infection. Also, make sure your nail technician properly sterilizes all tools used during your procedure. Various infections can spread through the use of unsterilized tools. You might also ask how the foot baths are cleaned. Ideally, a bleach solution is used between clients and the filters are cleaned regularly.
It's easy to neglect your nails — but there's much you can do to keep your fingernails healthy and strong. Start with basic fingernail care.

Know Your Skin Type

Juliet's Beauty & Makeup Tips

Among the many lessons I've learned is that yellow-tinted base and concealer fixes my ruddy complexion. If I wear heavy powder, especially under the eyes, it looks like crepe on me. To know what makeup works best on you, you should know not just your skin tone but also your skin type.

The five major skin types are:

·         Normal. Your skin tone is even, smooth, and firm with small- to medium-size pores.

Skin solution: Stick to light moisturizing foundation and use a mix of cream and powder blushes and eye shadows.

·         Oily. Your skin is shiny with larger more visible pores and you're prone to blackheads, whiteheads and pimples.

Skin solution: Stay away from oil-based cosmetics and stick to powders instead.
·         Dry. Your skin is dull and flakey with small pores, and sensitive to temperature.

Skin solution: Apply moisturizer and primer before using powder cosmetics, or use cream-based cosmetics.

·         Combination. Your skin has oily areas usually across the forehead, nose, and chin with dry areas on the cheeks, and around the eyes and neck. You're more prone to acne in the oily areas only.

Skin solution: Use oil-free foundation on the oily areas and a moisturizing foundation for the dry areas. Cream-to-powder foundations and eye shadows also work well.

·         Sensitive. Your skin burns easily when exposed to the sun, feels temperature changes easily, and more prone to break out in rashes from cosmetics.

Skin solution: Use mineral foundations and cosmetics (pure and natural) that allow skin to breathe.

No one likes to be ruddy, itchy or pimply—ever. Matching the right makeup to your skin type will not only help you look your best, but it'll minimize any skin reactions, so you can always put your best face forward.

Find the Right Foundation Shade for Your Skin Tone

Juliet's Beauty & Makeup Tips

The first step in putting your best face forward is figuring out the right base color. Think of foundation as the canvas in which you highlight your best facial assets, and cover the uneven spots with concealer (a girl's best friend!) Finding the right base color is a task all its own, so here's what I recommend:

·         When shopping for a foundation, look for the word non-comodenogenic (the fancy term that means it doesn't clog your pores). The product's claim should also be that it goes on evenly, or better yet, that it makes your skin glow.

·         Test the base on the back of your hand. If it blends into your skin without a visible line or dramatic tone difference, this could be the one.

·         Blend, blend, blend. Foundation isn't a mask. Your true skin should shine through. Concealer should be one shade lighter then your base. Make sure that you dot under the eyes (use your pinky!) and dot over any blotchiness, blemishes or redness, and then blend some more. (Did I say blend?)

Final words: Don't hide behind a mask of makeup as I once did. It took me years(!) to learn not to use heavy powder, especially under the eyes because it screams to the world: LOOK, I'M WEARING MAKEUP! The goal here is to let your natural beauty shine through—and shine you shall!

Note: There are products which will go perfect with black skin or white skin. Take time to pop-up at Beautylicious and find out!!

African Hair Problems

Tips to Maintain Healthy Black Hair!

Traditionally, black hair traditionally is more curly and dry compared to hair of other ethnicities. The curl pattern of this hair is tighter, making the structure of the hair weaker and prone to breakage. This tight curl pattern also prevents the natural oils of the scalp from flowing down each hair strand to keep it moisturized. However, there are ways to help your hair stay healthy and strong.

Weekly Maintenance Tips
African-American hair tends be on the dry side. As a result, daily shampooing of this type of hair can make it even drier and cause brittleness. A rule of thumb many African-Americans follow is to shampoo the hair at least once a week. However, depending on how active you are and how much styling product is used on your hair, you may want to shampoo your hair every three days.
Hair should be shampooed with a moisturizing shampoo to clean the hair without stripping away all moisture. A moisturizing conditioner should also be used to moisturize and detangle the hair. If you find that your hair still feels dry and "crunchy" after washing, a cholesterol deep conditioning treatment or hot oil treatment may be needed to restore a healthy level of moisture to your hair and make it softer.

Daily Maintenance Tips for Black Hair
Since this type of hair lacks moisture, it is best not to apply too much styling product(s) to it. The main styling product needed is a scalp conditioner or oil. Massage the scalp conditioner or scalp oil into the scalp and brush through the hair using a natural boar-bristle brush for straightened or relaxed hair. For natural "Afro" hair apply conditioner or oil directly to the hair, using only enough to make the hair softer and create a sheen. Gently comb your hair each day to detangle it and get rid of knots. Wear a silk or silky scarf or doo rag to bed each night to help hair retain its moisture and to prevent hair breakage.

Tips for Styling Black Hair
Hair styling can create fantastic looks for many people. However, it can also do some damage to the hair. African-Americans who use heated appliances to help style their hair such as hot combs, hot curlers, curling irons, flat irons, or dryers need to do so sparingly. Ideally, heat styling should be done one or twice a week because it can strip away much needed moisture from the hair. Try to avoid styling products that contain alcohol, specifically SD alcohol, in them. This type of alcohol strips away moisture. Do not use styling products on the hair everyday as this can lead to product buildup on the hair. These black hair care tips will help you maintain healthier hair. For optimal hair health, maintain a well-balanced diet, get adequate exercise, and drink plenty of water. This will help healthy hair grow from your hair follicles. Also, a multi-vitamin containing a vitamin B complex will also promote healthy hair growth.
